My first HNM
Jul/050
I logged on to see ls friends going to Valley of Sorrow. They said that Aspidochelone might be up.
I was pretty excited, I mean.. I’ve never done any HNM hunting before, but then I was thinking, there would be a lot of ppl there. Would it lag me to the point that I might be a burden to my ls?
BLMs have an important role to stun any dangerous moves from mobs. Timing is crucial or it could mean heavy damage on the party. I was really worried that I might need to stun, get lagged out and was slow on stun therefore get the party killed.
Checking on the linkshell list, most of them were already in Valley of Sorrow and seemed like they had enough BLM who can stun properly. So I thought ‘What the hell’ and made my way there.
Btw, there were a lot of people there. Lots of other HNM lses claimers were there, lots of ppl in real expensive gear too. I’ve heard about this one (Japanese I think?) HNM ls that had claimed all the HNMs yesterday. With all this competition, how could they do that? What gives them the advantage?
I do understand that some ppl have the knack on claiming mobs as soon as they spawned, but to be this good with this much competition? I doubt that this claimer is just using normal macro.
Anyhow, instead of Aspidochelone, an Adamantoise popped. Guess who got it.. it was that HNM ls that I talked about.
After that we made our way to Behemoth’s Dominion, apparently the timer for King Behemoth was up. We made our way there, did nothing but stand around the possible spawn points and talked.
The moment it popped though, I got kicked off the game… All the claimer there use their provoke, dia, stun, whatever and overload my poor 64kbps.
After I managed to log back in, most of my ls members were back in Jeuno. That HNM ls who got the turtle earlier, got themselves King Behemoth this time. That means they got all the HNMs that spawned yesterday and today.
Taking Wabo through ZMs
Jul/050
I was sitting around Lower Jeuno as usual, waiting for skillup or exp invite. I saw Eriaxa, Lv 70 SMN, was looking for ppl to do Zilart Mission 4.
I remember that Wabo hasn’t had the chance to do it, since he doesn’t have internet for awhile. I told Eriaxa that I wanted to join, as Wabo. I quickly send some of my BLM gear to Wabo and joined the group.
Our group consisted of 3 SMN, PLD, WHM and BLM (Wabo), and we teleported to Yhoat crystal in Yuhtunga Jungle. To open the gate to the BC, we need 4 Rancor Flame which can be obtained from trading Unlit Lantern to an altar in Den of Rancor.
Eriaxa, Daarey, and me had an unlit lantern each, so we had to get another one by killing tonberries in Temple of Uggalepih. The problem was, we don’t want to add the damage to Everybody’s Rancor or was it Everyone’s Grudge, whatever! The damage increased as we killed more tonberries.
We decided to skip the hate reset quest, (not a good idea, really) because the PLD assured us he only had killed about 2-3 tonberries. So we decided that we would only use summoned creatures to attack the tonberries, and make sure that no one in the party, especially the PLD to take a swing at the tonberries
After the fourth lantern was obtained, we had to make our way to Den of Rancor. To get there, we had to use a Soul Paintbrush, fortunately Eriaxa & Daarey had them. Owner of paintbrush needed to check each painting then check this empty frame on eastern wall and stay totally still for a full minute. Since they can’t do anything while waiting, the rest of the group had to clear up the mobs in the painting room.
After the door in the painting room, we zoned into Den of Rancor. This was very annoying as we had to keep both sneak & invisible on all the time. We got lost several times inside trying to find the altar, and when we finally found the altar, we got aggro big time. We got attacked by about 7 monsters. Only Ghent made it out alive. Good thing the WHM had Reraise II on. Once the mobs wandered away, she raised herself and then the rest of us.
Lesson learned, after our weakness stats were gone, we killed all the bats around where we stood and one close to the altar. After all the bats were killed, Eriaxa & Ghent pulled the 2 bombs around the altar with their summons. Dooms & I snuck & invis ourself and we followed the 2 SMNs to the zone. Meanwhile, Daarey & Davesartin rushed to the altar, traded their lanterns and got their flames. Everyone regrouped at the zone.
What was left before the BC was trading using the 4 flames to open the BC gate. Tonberries go back and forth around the lantern stands and they aggro on sight. Yet we can’t be invisible while using the flames. When I got to the lantern stands, I was wondering why no one was answering me. I was slowly disconnecting! The network percentage thing keeps dropping down by 6% every second, I wish it would promptly disconnected me so I won’t just stand around the tonberries asking to be slapped by them. I quickly alt+tab and crashed the game in purpose, hoping I hadn’t get killed by the tonberries.
After few minutes of frustration trying to log back in (I was one of the lantern holder after all) I managed to get back on. Surprise surprise!! I was dead right in front of the gate. Quickly sent a tell to the pt leader, apparently the rest of the group were also wiped out. I felt so guilty, it took us 2 hours from Jeuno to finally get to the BC gate and I just had to be disconnected. Eriaxa told me that she found another group who was doing the same mission and had alliance with them so we could go into the BC quickly. The bad news was that Ghent, one of the SMN bailed and he already left.
We’ve came this far though, we weren’t gonna be stopped by lacking one member for the party. After my weakness from dying was gone, we quickly buffed up and entered the BC. I ran in, Elemental Seal + Sleepga II on the 3 tonberries. We took the THF Tonberry first as he could not be slept. I didn’t do a lot of nuking, the SMNs took care of that with their summons. I kept an eye on the other 2 Tonberries and debuff-ing the THF Tonberry. Next in line was the BLM Tonberry, I got hit quite a few this time. I have to keep BLM Tonberry, SMN Tonberry and it’s elemental silenced all the time. The SMN Tonberry and it’s elemental tend to wake up on diff time. Sometimes when I was in middle of casting silence on the elemental, BLM Tonberry would cast some -ga III spell, I had to scramble to target it and stun the spell. I only nuked when the tonberries were near death, so I could usually finish the fight with one lvl 4 spell.
Towards the end, the mages unleashed their 2 hours ability, except for the WHM. I used Manafont first, so that I can debuff, nuke, sleep, stun, and cure when my mana was already low. Had to cure cause the WHM was resting for more mana. Eriaxa Astral Flow on to the SMN Tonberry, helped by the PLD. While I nuke on the elemental together with Daarey’s Astral Flow. And we beat them!
After that we relaxed while watching the pretty long cutscene. Good thing about Zilart Missions is their cutscene and story line is pretty good.
Done with the cutscene, I warped everyone back to Jeuno. We were starting Zilart Mission 5. Had to go all over Vana’diel and gather stone fragments.
First we went to Behemoth’s Dominion. There, we met Kouru & Ayako. We joined and started killing the 2 NM spawned from clicking the Cermet Headstone. We were only planning to only take one at a time, but somehow both NMs started pounding at us. A few ppl died including at me in the end, but that was fine as long as that part is done.
From there, ppl teleported right to Yhoat crystal. I was worried because we need a lot of Prism Powder to not get aggroed by bombs. Casting Invisible spell would be very dangerous because there is not a lot of safe spot. Mages can snuck and invis themselves, but melee cannot. And I don’t want to drop my invis and take care of their sneak & invis, that would be asking for suicide.
I warned them 321247391 times to get the medicines, but nooooo why would they listen? I was stupid enough to stick around, as soon as we entered Ifrit’s Cauldron, some ppl started bugging the mages for sneak and invis, it was very chaotic. I ended up dead because I wasn’t careful while reapplying the sneak. It was already 6am and I had enough, those who goes to Ifrit’s Cauldron without the proper preparation are deserved to be left alone there and die. They will only drag the entire party down with their aggroes, wasting everybody’s time which means wasting more powders and possibly kill the entire party.
I just HP-ed back to Jeuno after I died, I refuse to go with ppl who don’t listen.
Being Bored~~
Jul/050
There’s nothing interesting seem to be happening in Vana’diel today, sadly.. that’s about the same as my real life. I decided to just bum around Lower Jeuno, just in case I see shouts for anything remotely interesting, while chatting with linkshell members…
To add up the multi-tasking, I went through my ffxi screenshots. Remembering what I’ve done in Vana’diel
For these 2 screenshots, Kirra and I were just sitting around Lower Jeuno and chatting about some random stuff. I knew Kirra and Dariusd from an old linkshell we were all in. It was broken and we were scattered.
Kirra is a funny guy who relate anything ppl are talking about into sex. And apparently, he convinced himself that Miths is his taru love slave…
This Roundhouse is such an ass. I came in contact with him when I needed Davoi Coffer Key for my artifact gear. I got together with some RNG who needed the same key, and one of them said that Roundhouse was forming a party for Davoi key hunt and charging 30,000 gil per person. I sent a tell to him and he said ‘30k up front and you can lot whatever drop later’. I happened to have that much money, and me being stupid gave him that 30k.
When I got into the party, I had a bad feeling. There were about 7 people who needed the key, and none of them were above lvl 60 except for Roundhouse. I’ve heard that the key drop rate is very rare there, not to mention the mobs are high-lvled… And he was looking for healer. I got the feeling that he wasn’t sharing any of the fee he charged to other helper, I don’t like that. I told him I changed my mind, I was just gonna sleep and want my money back. To my surprise, he kept discouraging me to disband and said that they were leaving soon, he kept trying to buy time. I told him firmly that I wasn’t gonna change my mind and I want my money back. Then he said to me ‘Aaww, come on. I was gonna buy my gear with this money..’ That’s not my business, that’s my money. He even tried to run away with it too, saying he found a healer and that they were leaving.
So I told him, “Give me back my money or I’m calling a GM on your ass”. Well that worked, he gave me back my money, and made some excuses.. saying stuff like ‘I just really wanna help you, you know? You need help to get the key, and I wanted to honor that and really get you your key.”. Right.
I warned one of the RNG who were in that group, but they just kept going. So, the next day I asked him. He said that Roundhouse took their money, and just left them all after 1 hour with no key drop. Thank God my feeling was right.
Until now he keeps pulling that trick, charging for every little thing he can charge, and just leave when the item doesn’t drop soon.
The rest of the screenshots are some random moments, Baos running around with his mule, Preston, and annoying me while I was fishing on the ferry. Wabo and me fishing in Rabao, and some skillup parties that I was in.
I got Sky!!
Jul/050
Finally finally finally!
I’ve been hoping to finish the freaking Zilart Mission 12 since…. forever~!
I did Zilart Mission 1 - 3 ages ago.
Did the nasty Zilart Mission 4 a few months after. Just one party with some other players from Sugoii Linkshell. We had a few deaths due to the stupid tonberries, but we got it done. Temple of Uggalepih and Den of Rancor are hell. Those Tonberries are nasty, their Throat Stab get your HP down to almost nothing, and their Everyone’s Grudge does more damage when you’ve killed more tonberries.
Zilart Mission 5 was more annoying. We had to go all over Vana’diel to gather some stones… I went with people from European Linkshell. Ifrit’s Cauldron though, was the most annoying. The place is a maze, I had no map, and the mobs are bitches. Quite a few people died inside… and raising them was a real pain. Since the bombs aggro even lvl 75 players. Nevertheless, we got some done, and the soloable stones are left for us to do by ourselves.
Me, being a lazy bum, needed another 7 months to finish the soloable parts. Shiarua though, he was being awesome and took me to finish the soloable parts. Thanks a lot Shia, I wouldn’t find the one in Quicksand Cave without you.
A few days ago I read a shout looking for people to do Zilart Mission 6-12. Sent a tell to the guy and dragged Afruu from Wabo LS to come with me. Fu said that 5 ppl would be enough, I trust him, so we went with 5 people.
The fight itself wasn’t that hard, I ran in and Elemental Seal + Sleepga 2. And the ants were asleep most of the time. We killed one at a time, was no big deal.
ZM7 was just going through a series of cutscenes. The animation was cool, and the story was long. I took a lot of screenshots.
After finishing ZM7, Afruu asked me if I want to help a linkshell member with a weapon skill quest, for Evisceration WS. Fu said it’s gonna be quick, so I agreed and the rest of the group said they would wait for us back in Jeuno.
I warped the group back to Jeuno, quickly formed a group with ppl from the linkshell who are helping for the WS quest. We soon headed to Gustav Tunnel. When we got there, we started fighting to clear up the monster around the spawning place of the quest NM, the melee fought a little too close to other skeletons and we had a lot of aggro. 2 people died and I warped us out of the dungeon just in time. There was no WHM with us, so the 2 ppl had to accepted Raise 1 and had to foot the experience loss.
After raising people and they recovered from the weakness stat, we started to clear up the mobs again, this time the fights went smoothly. After about 4 skeletons, the spawning room is empty. Xcalibur, the RDM who needs the quest, quickyl spawned the bat NM and we killed it with no problem. I hit escape spell soon after cause I don’t want to spend another second in that awful place, not to mentions the skeletons could’ve spawned soon after that.
After warping back to Jeuno, I found out that the party from ZM6-7 earlier had replaced me and Afruu. What’s with that? They already said they’d wait. But I guess they just can’t wait to get their sky access, I can understand that. Kinda silly though, cause they were still in Jeuno when my linkshell was done with the WS quest.
A few days later, I saw another shout for ZM8-12. This time the shout came from a RDM who’s anon, Nurion (means he hides his job and level, this are usually done so ppl don’t bug them when they’re busy). He was looking for players @lvl65+ for the ZMs. Told him I wanted to join, we ended up with a party configuration of RDM, BLM (me), BRD, THF, MNK and PLD. I reminded everyone to bring their Delkfutt Key, hi-ether, hi-potion, echo drops.
When we were ready, we made our way to Delkfutt Tower. We started making our way to the teleporter once inside, and were warped to Upper Delkfutt Tower. After running through the 11th & 12th floor, we arrived in Stellar Fulcrum, the area for Zilart Mission 8 fight.
The fight itself was chaotic, I had to help the RDM to heal PLD so often that I couldnt focus on my own nuking (casting damaging elemental spells). We died on first try, the MNK said he had to go, I warped him back and then the PLD said that his sister, Hotinleather (yes that’s her char name), a lvl 75 RNG, was coming to help us.
Second try was not that different, we did last longer, but when the RDM died again together with the PLD. The rest of us just warped out of the BC. Nurion told me to do more healing, so that was what I did on the first 2 tries. Hotinleather told me to do more nuking and less healing unless Nurion dies. I had to be careful though in casting. Kamlanaut does various elemental buffs on himself, and if I nuke him with the same element, it would heal him instead of damaging him. I did a pretty good job I think, we succeeded the 3rd time, with me being the only casualty. My nuke went off AFTER he casted Dispelga, a move which resets hate for the entire party. So I got the hate and Kamlanaut stabbed me in the face with his sword. Good thing his HP was already low so there was no other casualty.
I lost about 8000 experience points from all those deaths, that’s about 2-3 hours of leveling work.
After going through all the cutscenes, we warped back to Jeuno. Visited Aldo in the Neptune Spire Tavern, also known as the Tenshodo HQ, we got another cutscene for ZM9. We were told to go to Norg and talk to Gilgamesh. We hoped on an airship to Khazam and took chocobo through the jungle to Norg.
After we were done with the cutscenes, I changed into WHM to teleport the party around, and this is the start of Zilart Mission 10
We teleported to Mea crystal, and took chocobo to Ro’Maeve. Zoned in into one of the most beautiful place in Vana’diel, Hall of the Gods. We had to click twice the gate at the back of Hall of the Gods, and that was the end of ZM10.
For ZM11, we warped back to Norg and talk to Gilgamesh… again. He then sent us to Rabao to talk to Maryoh Comyujah by the windmill.
For ZM12, Maryoh sent us to Quicksand Cave to fight an NM. I started lagging really bad at this point due to my stupid anti-virus which insisted on updating itself although I’ve tried to turn it off. That’s why I don’t have any screenshots for the fight itself.
I had Karashiri, a lvl 75 BLM to come and help, since I was lagging really bad and I was worried that something might happen and no one to warp us out the dungeon. We got a few aggros along the way from the ants, Kara got hit quite hard, but we survived.
After resting and doing buffs, we spawned Ancient Vessel, the NM for ZM12. As soon as we killed it, I got disconnected. Fratically trying to get back on while cursing everything is fun. Good thing when I logged back on, I already had the key item needed in my inventory, otherwise we’d have to fight it again.
Went back to Rabao, and talk to Maryoh. With that, ZM12 is done, and I have sky access!
I couldn’t wait to see sky, so I went with Darklaser, the PLD to Hall of the Gods. This is ZM 13. We only need to go through some cutscenes. The place was beautiful.
Now that I have sky access, I can go with linkshell to hunt HNM, or Gods (Gods in japanese legend, such as Byakko, Kirin , etc)
Garlaige Citadel was being nice!
Jul/050
Riykere, a lvl 56 Paladin had been shouting for people who wants to help him get a Garlaige Coffer Key for his Paladin Gallant Coronet, part of his artifact gear.
Asked him how many people he has, since I can’t tank the mobs, I’m only a small taru black mage. He said he had been shouting for hours, but no one wanted to help and he had been trying to get a key for 7 hours. I do understand the pain of getting people to get artifact gear. So I told him to keep looking for people, and let me know when he found enough people.
A couple hours later, he sent me a tell, asking if I still want to help him. We went down to Garlaige Citadel, or Garbage Shitadel as some of us say it.
Being patient has its rewards, Garlaige Citadel is famous for it’s stingy item drop, and yet after this Lv 74 SAM joined us, Zurai. We got 3 key drops in a row. Then Zurai logged off for a bit and the key stopped dropping.
Zurai’s good luck decreased slightly when he logged back on 10 mins later, we didn’t get another key until about 30 mins. But overall, it was awesome. We got 4 keys in less than 2 hours, when Riykere tried earlier for 7 hrs and didn’t get it.
I believe Zurai brings good luck. Later that day, I went for skillup party. Apparently Zurai was in the same party too. We went to Kuftal Tunnel to skill up on lizards and crabs. Same thing happened, 4 Kuftal Tunnel Coffer Keys dropped from each mobs in a row.
I was hoping I could get my club skill to 175, so I can learn True Strike weapon skill. But it’s already 4am, and I’m only @ 173. The skillups from the crabs had slowed down, don’t think it’ll be worth it.
Good night
